Etymology and meaning of FILER
The name Filer comes from the French 'fileur', the English translation of which is 'Spinner'. A group of French textile workers established themselves in the area around Blagdon in Somerset, where their skills were in demand for then thriving woollen trade. This explanation was handed down from my grandparents.
